We are looking for a CFO to join our Founding Team

Location: Copenhagen – we are open for strong candidates in other Northern European locations
Compensation: market based + equity

In just 30 years, 2.3 billion more people will live in cities. The pressure from rapid urban population growth is already showing: housing costs are growing unaffordable, pushing normal families out of the cities they love. CO2 levels continue to rise, with the built environment accounting for ~40% of energy-related emissions. And the diversity of our cities slowly declines as space is taken from artists, entrepreneurs, community spaces and urban nature.

Imagine instead if every new building contributed positively to our planet. If housing costs were affordable to all groups of societies. And if the vibrancy and diversity of our neighbourhoods grew as we expanded our cities. We think the path from imagination to reality is shorter than many think – and are now looking for a senior finance profile to join us in realising our vision of affordable, regenerative and inclusive urban development serving the whole.

Who we are

Home.Earth is a newly launched impact real estate company. We focus on developing inclusive, regenerative, and liveable homes and spaces initially in the largest cities in Denmark, the Netherlands and Finland – with European ambitions. We aspire to change real estate to serve the whole and are ready to be a pathfinder towards a new paradigm.

Our founding team includes some of Europe’s leading people within investment management, real estate development, sustainability, modular construction, community building and more – including Rasmus Nørgaard (Co-founder & Ex-CIO, NREP), Carel van Houte (Ex-Chief Construction Officer, CitizenM), Gernot Strube (Senior Partner Emeritus at McKinsey & Company), Søren Stig (Impact investor and Ex-Chief Sustainability Officer at Maersk) and Kasper Guldager (Ex-Senior Partner at 3XN and founder of GXN).

The role

In this role, you will build and lead our finance function pretty much from scratch, which will initially be focused on enabling the process of attracting capital from aligned investors. You will provide strategic and financial support to the entire organisation and be part of shaping our aspirations, value proposition and business case. You will be our chief financial spokesperson and be part of all strategic and tactical matters related to the financial side of our business – from budget management to securing funding and reporting to investors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop our capitalization strategy in collaboration with our investor relations team members
  • Setup our tax, legal and compliance functions
  • Drive our company structuring in coordination with our advisors
  • Shape the finance side of our company strategy and be part of shaping our strategy across the board
  • Project management
  • Build our accounting, controlling, and budgeting functions and a team around these functions as we grow
  • Ensure that our work is documented in data rooms and other investor-facing documentation

The profile we’re looking for

You bring several years of experience attracting and managing third party capital, and are able to co-develop strategies for value creation for a broad group of stakeholders across market cycles. You are open to work in a dynamic, fast growing, purpose driven company, that operates on the principle of self-organization. You share our aspiration to reimagine how things are done in the real estate industry and want to join us in pioneering a new way to serve all stakeholders in a fair and balanced way. And you are prepared to initially roll up your sleeves and build the finance function yourself, over time building a team to support in this.

Qualifications we’d imagine you bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At least 7 years experience as head of finance and/or investments or equivalent in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Development and implementation of innovative financial management and capitalization strategies
  • Experience with integrated reporting/triple bottom line reporting is a plus
  • Experience working with IT team members to manage finance and accounting software packages
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred

How we work

We have decided to organize Home.Earth according to Holacracy – a management system built on self-management, transparency, wholeness and distributed ownership. That means that we’ve given the old hierarchical system the boot and instead organise in circles around our company purpose. It also means that all team members own a part of Home.Earth.

Organising according to Holacracy is one of the steps we take towards becoming a Teal organisation, characterised by:

  • Self-management: we replace hierarchical control systems with a highly context and trust-based system, allowing people to take ownership of their roles
  • Wholeness: we bring all of ourselves to work and not just our corporate masks
  • Evolutionary purpose: we avoid forcing ourselves to predict and control the purpose of our organisation and continuously listen and respond to the organization’s purpose

We invite all interested candidates to read more about Holacracy and Teal Organisations. Relevant resources include:

How to apply

All our roles are open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the superpowers and potential of everyone –  regardless of race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civilpartnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other difference that makes you, well, you
